2021 - What DID they do?

Of the 7,817 bills filed to date, only 115 have become law during the first year of the 2021-2022 General Court session. That’s a mere 1.4 percent!

What were those laws about? Two words: local government.

As shown in the graph below, bills about local government, closely followed by laws about local employees, made up 45% of all bills passed into law in 2021. Add in the 4th highest category, sick leave banks, and you get over half!

That’s not to say that no important bills became law. Beacon Hill enacted laws about COVID relief, unemployment benefits, emergency sick leave benefits, student nutrition, and genocide education.

But… the bulk of the work didn’t address critical topics. Still pending for 2022: additional COVID relief funding, sports betting, voting access, mental health treatment equity, and community hospital reform.

If you need help keeping track of what’s progressing on Beacon Hill during what is sure to be a busy 2022, and you aren’t currently an InstaTrac subscriber, reach out! We are happy to give you a tour and a free trial. info@instatrac.com.
