Behind MuniTrac: My Role in Making Local Government More Transparent
When I joined InstaTrac, I was drawn to one simple but powerful mission: making government information more accessible. As Director of MuniTrac Operations, I have the privilege of turning that mission into action every day by helping municipalities across Massachusetts make their meetings more transparent while dramatically reducing the administrative burden on municipal staff.
I have always been interested in law and politics, and that interest is part of what drives my work. My role involves managing the entire operational flow behind MuniTrac, from transcription quality and delivery timelines to product updates and client support. In short, I make sure that when a community holds a public meeting, the conversation does not get lost; it gets captured, organized, and delivered efficiently so staff can focus on serving their communities rather than managing paperwork.
From the Classroom to City Hall
Before joining InstaTrac, I spent several years as a public school teacher, an experience that continues to shape how I approach my work today. Working in public service gave me a first-hand understanding of how government decisions impact people’s lives and how essential trust is between institutions and the public.
Teaching taught me how to communicate complex ideas clearly, stay organized under pressure, and value access to information for those who rely on it to make informed decisions. It also gave me an appreciation for transparency, accountability, and the importance of detail — values I carry into every aspect of my work with MuniTrac.
That background gives me a unique perspective when working with school committees and municipal staff who use MuniTrac. I understand the realities of local government operations, the time constraints, the administrative overload, and the desire to serve the public with transparency. Whether I am helping a town clerk eliminate hours of manual transcript work or ensuring a committee’s minutes are drafted accurately and delivered quickly, I approach it with the same focus and care I brought to every lesson plan: making sure information is clear, accessible, and meaningful.
Transparency and Efficiency Through Technology
My attention to detail plays a major role in ensuring our customers receive the support they need. Since meeting minutes are a key component of transparency, providing detailed and accurate records of what occurs during city meetings helps nurture and foster trust between municipalities and their constituents.
But transparency alone isn’t enough, it has to be sustainable. That’s why MuniTrac is designed to lighten administrative workloads. Municipal clerks who once spent hours or even days transcribing meetings and drafting minutes can now receive accurate, speaker-attributed transcripts and draft minutes in a fraction of the time. This means less after-hours work, fewer bottlenecks in the approval process, and more capacity to handle the many other responsibilities that come with running local government.
Every transcript and minute MuniTrac delivers represents a dual commitment to clarity and openness for residents, and to efficiency and relief for the staff who serve them.
I take pride in knowing that the work we do helps every community, large or small, share its story clearly while making government work more sustainable for the people behind the scenes. Because at its heart, MuniTrac is about connection: between residents and their governments, between transparency and trust, between information and understanding, and between overwhelming workloads and manageable, efficient processes. And behind the scenes, my job is to make sure those connections stay strong.
