Keep Track of Vote Data with MassTrac
One of the most frustrating parts of tracking legislation in Massachusetts is figuring out how your legislator actually voted. You can spend hours digging through the official state site and still come up empty.
That’s where InstaTrac’s MassTrac software comes in. MassTrac makes it easy to stay informed. Whether you're an independent lobbyist or part of an organization, the platform is designed to help you quickly understand where bills stand—and how your legislators are weighing in. In this post, we’ll walk you through exactly where and how you can find voting records using MassTrac, so you’re never left guessing again. Let’s dive in.
The fastest way to see voting data is through the “General Court” tab. After clicking it, a menu will drop down with a tab labeled “Votes.”
On this page, you’ll find staff-written descriptions that explain what each vote was about. The votes are organized into three sections: House, Senate, and Committee. For each one, you can see exactly how many lawmakers voted “Yea,” “Nay,” or were absent—displayed on the right-hand side.
The “Scorecard” tab at the top takes you to a page where you can input your own vote preferences. From there you can generate a personalized scorecard based on those preferences.
If you're looking for specific voting history rather than general vote data, you can find it right on the bill’s page. Just enter the bill number or keyword into the search bar, then click on the “Votes” tab on the left-hand side to see the votes that took place.
Clicking on any of the floor votes will take you to a page with the full breakdown of results. There, you can see which legislators voted for or against the measure.
The final place to find voting data is on individual legislator pages. You can get to these pages in a few ways: by searching their name in the search bar, navigating through the “General Court” tab, or simply clicking their name anywhere it appears on the site.
Now that you see how simple it is, what votes will you be tracking next? Whether you're an advocate, analyst, or policymaker, MassTrac gives you the tools to navigate Massachusetts legislation with confidence.
