MassTrac’s 2025 New Features

Starting January 1, 2025, MassTrac is introducing exciting new features that will make tracking the Massachusetts State Legislature easier, more comprehensive, and faster than ever. Here’s a look at what’s coming at the start of the 2025-2026 legislative session:

1. AI-Generated Bill Overviews

Get instant overviews of newly filed bills, available as soon as the bill is posted. With concise, AI-generated summaries, you can easily understand the key points of each bill right when they drop. Just a few lines of overview will give you the essential information, with a "see more" option for a deeper dive. More complex and comprehensive bills will still be given an in depth look by our legal experts and have a detailed summary attached.

2. Event Transcript Synopses

Along with searchable transcripts, MassTrac will provide synopses of State House event transcripts, such as committee hearings, floor debates, and regulatory sessions. These synopses will save you time by highlighting the key points, eliminating the need to read through long documents. These synopses will be uploaded in real time along with the full searchable, clickable edited transcript.

3. MassTrac Copilot

The new Copilot feature lets you dig deeper into legislation by asking detailed questions, like “Who testified on the climate bill in 2024?” This feature makes it easier to explore legislative discussions without sifting through all the text yourself. It functions similarly to other chatbots, but is uniquely configured to give you strong results within the context of Massachusetts’ legal system.

4. Enhanced Statutory Citation Search

You can now search not only by keywords, but also by statutory citations. For example, if you're tracking affordable housing laws linked to MGL 40B, MassTrac ensures that you don’t miss relevant bills, even if they don’t use specific key words, like “zoning.” This enhanced search functionality offers more comprehensive results, and ensures you will miss fewer relevant pieces of legislation.

5. Real-Time Notifications

Stay informed with real-time notifications for keyword, statutory citation, and category searches. You’ll receive updates as they happen, rather than waiting for daily alerts. You can choose to get notifications throughout the day or at the end of the day.

6. "What's New" Dashboard Tile

MassTrac is introducing a new “What’s New” tile on your dashboard. This feature will highlight:

  • Bills that are soon to be debated

  • Newly loaded bills

  • Newly loaded event transcripts

  • Important upcoming events

The “What’s New” tile will make it easy for you to find the latest legislative updates, including key bills (like the “S.A.F.E.R. Act”), which will be clearly identified by their common names (e.g., the “gun bill”) for easier navigation. Additionally, you'll be able to quickly add events to your personal calendar for greater convenience.

This tile will provide an at-a-glance view of everything that's important, so you won’t miss key developments.

7. Legislative Staff Page

You can now find all legislative staff and committee staff on one page - easily sortable and downloadable. Just click on the drop-down under “General Court,” and select Legislative Staff.

8. External Track Sharing & Track Assignments

We’ve added a tool for you to collaborate with external contacts - and assign tracks internally.

Add contacts to your account, and then select their name when you create or edit a track. Or, 'assign' a track to someone on your account, so they know it's part of their workflow.

They'll get an email with a link to view that track - and have the ability to collaborate.
