T2T - Hearings Without Hassle

Admit it. It's not the easiest name to spell. Many of us in the #mapoli world struggle with it. We’re talking about progressive fave, Representative Erika Uyterhoeven of Somerville.

But while you and I might have a hard time, "it" doesn't. What “it”?

We call it T2T, which is shorthand for MassTrac's great new technological invention, Talk-to-Text. It's the most significant development to hit the legislative bill tracking world in decades.

With T2T, every word spoken at legislative committee hearings and floor debates is instantly turned into searchable text. Want to know if a word important to you was mentioned in a five hour hearing? Search for it, see every occurrence in context, click on the one you want and - Voila! - you are taken to that precise moment in the video.

So how does "it" know how not to translate the Somerville Rep's name into something like "out of heaven," or "scooter haven?"

Because of the machine learning that’s built in. We fed the names of every legislator, state agency, agency acronym, and frequently misspelled word into the translation software with instructions on how they should appear in the transcript.

The better the translation, the less editing and the faster you get clean, searchable, versions of hearings and floor sessions. By getting you the searchable transcripts quickly, we free you from watching every floor debate or committee hearing, giving you time for other responsibilities.
